At RGC Design, with our knowledge in design, park and recreation planning, and capital budget development, we bring a unique perspective to ADA reviews and transition planning.  We not only provide an assessment of your current status as it relates to ADA code, we also provide a comprehensive plan for meeting ADA standards.  In addition, with our expertise, we can seamlessly tie the recommendations into your capital improvement plan and assist you with securing grant funding and implementation.

Key Personnel

Robert Collins — Principal

Robert Collins is a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) in Illinois, a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI).  He graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana – Champaign in 1990 with a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture.

Since 1995, after five years working in residential landscape design, Robert entered the park and recreation industry as the Project Manager for a large park district agency west of Chicago.  Since then he has been involved in every aspect of the playground industry, including municipal agencies, professional firms, and playground vendors.  Over this time, he has designed and overseen the development of thousands of parks and playgrounds; and authored "The Complete Guide to Playground Development".  Robert has also designed and overseen the development of numerous residential, natural area, and municipal landscape projects.


Ben Kutscheid — Senior Landscape Architect

Ben Kutscheid is a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) in Illinois, a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Ben is a graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture.  Ben has 23 years of experience, primarily in Northern Illinois, working for professional Landscape Architecture Firms with a focus on Parks and Recreation.  Ben has completed Open Space Master Plans for neighborhoods, Communities and Counties.  He has developed Landscape and Park Development Plans from Concept to Grand Opening for hundreds of projects ranging from ten thousand dollars to fifteen million dollars.  Ben is a past Park Commissioner for the Park District of Highland Park, and has been a speaker at both NRPA and IAPD conventions.  Speaking topics included Art in the Playground, Park materials and surfaces, and ADA transition planning as part of a Capital Improvement Plan.


RGC Design originated when Robert Collins, writer of “The Complete Guide to Playground Development”, founded the company to further promote his passion for creating beautiful playground environments, or PLAYVIRONMENTS. The company is now a full service landscape architecture and park and recreation design firm, with a specialization in playground design.

    The play areas were defined into three areas linked by the overall theme: A school age structure as the island, a tot structure as the shipwreck on the beach, and a splash park area as the ocean.
